The Mega Brothel (2015)

Ever met a young girl who told you her dream when she grows up is to have sex with ugly men older than her father for money? Does that help you understand the “general attitude of disgust”?

booger 13 points 4 years ago.

Ever met Any young person who told you that their dream was to work some back breaking and/or dead-end job for low wages for people who do not appreciate it?
I was talking about prostitution as a legal profession and not about the untold multitudes that are enslaved and are forced to do this.

What else to say about this 1st ep? Plenty. But not without spoilers I think.
Oh, and please do stick around till after the credits for a sneak peak.

I would bet that if that “baby” got to be about 5, and the parents were going through hard times, you would vote against the social programs that would take from your taxes to help the family get groceries, help the child’s school get better textbooks, help the child get adequate health insurance, etc. It’s always a baby that needs protection until it’s an actual older human being that needs help from programs that would infringe on your income, right?

What an emotional journey this movie took me on! I smiled, I laughed, I cried. And then cried a little more while smiling! Really well done - acting, cinematography - everything was great! Recommend to all who like a sentimental movie.

Total Recall (1990)
somniloquist 12 points 4 years ago*.

A Plea on Behalf of Practical Effects: This film is thirty years old, and most of it looks like it could be made today. It features prosthetics, model builds, puppetry, matte painting, and all kinds of makeup effects. And they ALL hold up. The only places that look even slightly dated are anything approaching CGI, which was mostly likely just blue screen at the time.
Technology will always move at a fast pace, and CGI in movies from just five years ago has already started to look laughable. Sure, maybe it’s a little cheaper and a little faster. But if studios would go back to investing in the artists that make effects in movies like Total Recall, there would be so many more things standing the tests of time.

Really great HBO Masonic-Gnostic Dust Bowl series that uses archetypes within the period story of bad vs. good. Totally swept under the rug. Hey… Clancy Brown, Amy Madigan, Toby Huss & Nick Stahl- not to mention old school fav Adrienne Barbeau.

Resident Alien (2021)
DeafTard 12 points 4 years ago.

I was VERY skeptical of this show due to the fact that it is a SyFy show and we all know what happens when SyFy has their hands on a new series. However, after watching one episode, I was absolutely hooked. Plus, it has Alan Tudyk in it who stars as Harry (the alien) and he absolutely nails the role! This show is absolutely hilarious and the writing is actually good! I really hope this series is watched by enough viewers to greenlit a second season! Anyways, give the first episode a chance and you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how good this show is. The CGI effects is pretty good for a low budget show like this.

OMG😭! Beautiful! That’s the Nick that we all forget about! When he’s out there making, just for fun(not always good), over the top crazy and weird movies, we forget about him starting out as a serious actor. We forget he won the Academy Award for Best Actor in Leaving Las Vegas, beating out Anthony Hopkins, Richard Dreyfuss and Sean Penn… WOW! This movie was a testament to his range and shows he still has the ability to not only be serious but also break our hearts! His timing was exceptional, I was emotional throughout the whole movie. Thanx 4 links! Happy Watching!

I don’t know what to make with this show, yet. Right off the bat, it’s hard for me to believe that a mentally unstable detective, would still have a job, at the London Metropolitan police. And everybody around him seems to be fine with it? I don’t think so. Somebody like that would be a danger to himself and his colleagues. I’ll see how future episodes goes, but this first one was hard to get into.

After all this hubbub I think I have to watch this. I’ll edit after.
Edit: Ask yourself this question. Do you agree with these statements?
1.) One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.
2.) The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.
3.) One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.
4.) The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one’s own.
5.) Beliefs should conform to one’s best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one’s beliefs.
6.) People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one’s best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused.
7.) Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.
If you do agree, then maybe you should become a member of TST. I think I’ve been a member all my life.

Interview with the Vampire (2022)
Arcangel2020 -3 points 2 years ago.

Oh, gee…it the remake/reboot of the gawd awful “Interview with a Vampire” movie, not only that but it’s another “based on the novel by…” series (which is always a Red Flag).
The entire Anne Rice vampire novel series was absolute total dreck. I always tell people who thought it was good? Read author Brian Lumley’s “Necroscope” and “Blood Wars” series. Now THOSE are some GREAT Vampire/Wamphyri creatures that put Anne Rice’ “vampires” to shame.

grasshopper rex 17 points 2 years ago*.

Yeah, those horrible “based on the novel by…” series. Game of Thrones, The Witcher, Good Omens, Watchmen, Dexter, A Handmaid’s Tale. I love how people speak as if their opinion is the definitive one. Given that Rice has sold over 130 million books, I doubt she is losing sleep at night because you don’t like her work. Comparing Rice’s books to Lumley’s is like comparing apples to oranges. Yeah, they’re both fruits, but they taste nothing alike. Some prefer apples, some oranges. Some like one, but have no like for the other and just because you don’t care for something doesn’t mean that it has no value.

Dark Side of the 90's (2021)
mossryder 0 points 3 years ago.

Also, the 90s aren’t generally known as some idyllic decade to begin with. politics, economy, civil rights. All a terrible mess.

kahnwiley 17 points 3 years ago*.

It wasn’t perfect, but compared with the last two decades, it was a walk in the park, lol. Back when we thought the internet was going to liberate society from all its woes, rather than cause them. . .
Also, for a few years, it didn’t feel like humanity was doomed. That was cool.

Nobody (2021)
Kid Kryptonite 17 points 4 years ago.

It’s very much like John Wick which is a good thing. Just when they’re out the game people pull them back in. I like that they cast someone who looks nothing like the typical action star to do these more realistic fight scenes. You can tell the dedication Bob Odenkirk put into training and so much fun seeing Christopher Lloyd also playing a badass. It’s just a great action flick to sit back with some popcorn and enjoy.

Project Power (2020)
magically_delicious 16 points 4 years ago.

This Netflix original is a very entertaining, easy to watch, and professionally edited semi-superheroes sweet treat. Jaime Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, combined with [relative] newcomer Dominique Fishback deliver on every level. I enjoyed its quirkiness and humour as well as its gore and imagination. Highly pleasurable viewing. 3.8/5

Peacemaker (2022) S1 E8
Kid Kryptonite 16 points 3 years ago.

James Gunn can save DC if he made this D-list villain show so good. I’m a comic nerd and even I never heard of Peacemaker until The Suicide Squad, but now he’s turned him into a fan favorite like he did Guardians of the Galaxy. The action was great and that cameo at the end was like a cherry on top of a perfect season. Totally didn’t expect them to do that.

Don't Look Up (2021)

Highly enjoyable movie with a great all-star cast! Although the ending was a bummer…but it did point out how important it is to have leaders who follow facts and science, rather than some lunatic tech billionaire, the type who would save himself and screw the planet! SO glad this was fictional!

This movie was complete and utter garbage. I was hoping with how good the first was, this was going to be a no brainer. Nope. Just trash. The second they announced it was a musical I was like… Oh No. But I was still hopeful. I am so glad I didn’t pay to see this film. I really hope either James Gunn, or Matt Reeves can redeem The Joker in the movies.
