I don’t do hype, never watch trailers, don’t do commercial tv, hate spoilers, go into movies knowing as little as possible. But I do read people’s opinions on this site since they aren’t influenced by anything but their own judgements. What was so bad about this flick? Production? Acting? Writing? Directing? It has better reviews that longlegs. Trying to decide what movie to spend money on in a theater for date night, we like twisted shit but aren’t above any decent big screen entertainment.
The plot, the pacing, the resolution, the twist, the many recycled ideas from Caveat. The director sure has a feeling for creepiness, suspense and being a bit off …. I give him that but it often borders on the unintentionally comedic and he definitly took it too far here. That ending is a silly joke… either the director is utterly oblivious or he is making fun of his audience.
You are basically waiting for a wooden doll to move… thats it. At its core its “Dont look away” with a whounnit twist you can smell a mile away. Acting and cinematography was OK but movies that build tension to nothing always piss me off.
If you hate spoilers you shouldn’t have asked me….but i won’t get into more detail and there is a lot i am angry abput with this movie. Longlegs to me was a way better movie… some equally silly supernatural ideas but at least it felt like a thriller, evoked emotions and didn’t feel like a never ending ghost train smelling of old farts with the same bum touching your face around every corner and going “Boooo!”.
BTW… if someone can explain to me what is so “smart” about this movie as so many reviewers mention, i’d be really interested.
