I’m not sure why this was made. It viewed as a revisit for fan-service, but who thought the original needed a revisit? It was always to be a standalone…we didn’t need a followup to see what happened in a blatantly inaccurate period piece.
Don’t get me wrong, I consider Gladiator to be one of my favorite films, not for accuracy, but for the scope, the beauty, the acting, the sound/music, the well executed/edited story. 24 years later, it holds it’s own as art…and this new one is but a shadow of it, which is curious considering the money thrown at it. I don’t think the performances were that bad, maybe some casting issues, but a weak story, and what seems like a movie that was edited down to fit a time limit some executive demanded.
Worth a watch for some of the fight sequences, but on the whole, it kinda tarnishes the name of the original.
Because the sharks from Sharknado needed a job.
