I agree! I realise this series isn’t for everyone, but Carrie Preston is so amazing as Elsbeth IMO. Who needs more reality in their reality? This is pure delight. The only thing I would love to see change is the length of each episode… they need to be a full hour, not forty some-odd minutes (I know, I know it’s because of commercials, but still!).

Unfortunately, US shows, especially on major networks, don’t do 90 minute shows (which it would have to be to get a full hour). That’s one thing I love about British shows. They have longer but fewer episodes. It give the detective time to really delve deeper into the case, and has more time for their personal lives too. Seems there are a few cable shows like that, but I can’t think of one off the top of my head.

When I was growing up, shows were 30 minutes, which was about 20 minutes with commercials. Very few were 60 minute shows. But then, we only had three channels. PBS was only for educational shows they sent into schools. We got 23 episodes and they all replayed in the summer, so if you wanted to watch something on another channel, you could watch it in the summer. TV stations shut down at 12 p.m, after the late news. and put on a signal like the one shown in this article.
