I love this series. I came to say, as someone fluent in French, they are not speaking French. It’s something else entirely, made to sound like French. Not sure if you knew/know that. If you already do, my apologies.
I see strong similarities between these people and representations of the WWII French resistance as depicted in tons of other films, including similar clothing. I think the choice of “alt-French” was deliberate to evoke that.
