I got the feeling that the writer got inspired by American gods by Neil Gaiman and tried to offer his own Concept but just try to squeeze too much in and in the end it was just a confusing mess. This would have benefited from the old doctor who format with five parts and two and a half hours. then it might have me all made sense.
RTD did make 2 parters. I agree with you on that part. Iβm thinking Disney said no. But I like 2 parters or even 3 parters but anything beyond that, probably not going to happen. I enjoyed the episode but with a low episode count, I would venture and say the last 2 episodes will be a 2 parter. This is much more on the fantasy side but itβs still within the Sci-fi scope.
