This phenomenon is linked to the accumulation of trichinella larvae, a type of parasitic roundworm that can infect polar bears and other animals. When humans consume undercooked or raw bear meat containing these larvae, it can lead to trichinosis, which may cause a range of symptoms, including gastrointestinal distress, fever, and in some cases, neurological effects that could potentially lead to hallucinations.
