It’s a great movie, but a hard watch.

I’d even go as far to say , “If your sensitive to seeing women abused, you may need to avoid this.” I saw it when it came out, and I can still vividly remember the orderlies.

That said, it’s still a worthwhile watch. Some could even make analogies to Britney Spear’s troubles. Seventy years ago, she probably would have been lobotomized.

FYI: I learned about Frances Farmer in a weird way, when Paul Harvey (radio) told me about her winning Scholastic magazine essay: “God Dies: An Essay by Frances Farmer” (1931). She was only 18, and already had an unique intellect. The essay is still widely available on line, and I find it’s insight brilliant. Newspaper Headlines: “Seattle Girl Denies God and Wins Prize.”

oh yes I remember the essay now that you mentioned the name. It is definitely a cautionary tale as well that when it comes to a David and Goliath battle, David rarely wins, in reality that is. You are right about Britney without social media etc. She likely would still be where she is or like you said lobotomized if it were many decades from now. Have yourself a good night. It’s always a pleasure critiquing with you
