Not your typical Roger Corman film. William Shatner plays a fervent racist in the age of desegregation, which is when the film came out. It’s not perfect, but it’s blunt and uncomfortable, so that part of Corman comes through. Be warned, there’s a lot of racial animas and abuse, so it’s not a fun watch.
At the same time, it had value for me because it was actually filmed in 1962. The context in which Roger Corman decided to make this movie is what interested me the most. It was certainly a political statement about the character/motivations of racist leaders and what was going on in the country.
BTW: I found it while looking for the highest rated Roger Corman films.
