Adapted from a book that was published 40 years ago & the book spawned The Matrix franchise. No release date yet and I shall be keeping an eye on this tv series.
A very strong statement that it spawned the Matrix Franchise. Admittedly, I have not read the book (i’ve watch Johnny Mnemonic), but remember studying the Matrix in school after it came out. Both in philosophy class and film courses. This was in early 2000 before people wrote think pieces that were under 200 characters and there was serious critique of the film. I am going through the wiki and see he coined the term “Matrix” but overall the themes of what it is were pulled from; Plato’s Cave, a few other (ahead of their time) modern day folks who had theories and philosophies about future tech in relation to human intelligence, functionality and development that were pulled into the Matrix Franchise.
I’d like to discuss further if people want to chime in, as long as 1. it’s not a debate and 2. its understood I am not preaching or being an expert, I’m seeking clarity on who the theorist was.
I remember distinctly that there was a philosopher/theorist who believed we would be plugging into our cerebral cortex or brain stem and downloading information directly to our brains. I remember reading it in class and it was almost exactly as it’s shown in the movie. think this was 1950s or earlier. Which Is why I don’t get why this author is being credited with coming up with the idea of “Jacking in” to the brain. he came up with that term but from what I can see, not the concept.
Does anyone following along know who I am talking about? I suck at google searches with broad clues.
I found this on Wiki, and it’s not the person I’m thinking of, but is from the 1960s predating Gibson’s work:
“Japanese Metabolist architects produced a manifesto in 1960 which outlined goals to “encourage active metabolic development of our society”[29] through design and technology. In the Material and Man section of the manifesto, Noboru Kawazoe suggests that:
After several decades, with the rapid progress of communication technology, every one will have a “brain wave receiver” in his ear, which conveys directly and exactly what other people think about him and vice versa. What I think will be known by all the people. There is no more individual consciousness, only the will of mankind as a whole.”
Is this all under the Transhumanism umbrella?
The Sisters were sued for possibly stealing the Matrix story from another woman. wouldn’t they also have been sued for casting Keanu to rip off another character and universe he’s already in?
