I will stand by the opinion that Spike is the better “person”. As outlined in this episode, he did set out to regain his soul in an attempt to become the man that Buffy could love. Every time Angel lost his soul he just became a horrid, spiteful, evil creature with no desire to get back his soul. A souless Spike fought demon trials for the opportunity to become better. Go back further and we see Angel pre-vampire years as a careless drunk & womanizer with zero redeeming qualities. Spike, on the otherhand, was a bit of a ponce/mama’s boy but really just a soppy romantic. Not a drop of evil in him. I will forever be Team Spike, heck, I only watched this show originally because I knew he would eventually be in it
