Yeah.. But I’m confused.. Is this the old one? There are the other caligula: the ultimate cut from 2024 here at PW.. 174 min vs 156 min in this one. It might be that one I saw.. It started with explaining that it was a new cut, cut together from 90h of previously assumed lost but now found, original footage. It was aimed to reconstruct the absolute initial copy released in Rome -74.. So yeah it is a bit confusing here on the east front.. If you gonna look at this film, I recommend you that you go ULTIMATE! or if you have the stomach for it, the original “imperial Uncut Cut” from 1979..
Yes. There is a separate primewire page for “Ultimate” which is 2023. When this originally came out there were all kinds of chopped up censored versions. This version intact is a very meh film (no opinion on the porn quality), don’t even bother opening one of the versions that is not at least 174 min. It’s a huge cult classic, not because it’s a good movie, but because it’s a pretty accurate film history snapshot of ‘70’s porn intersecting with Hollywood at the time. Apart from whatever turns people on (go for it) the porn is pretty tame compared to today’s offerings. At the time it was extremely shocking for anything coming out of Hollywood. I believe it was released unrated. We saw it through a college cinema group, it was the pre-cable pre-internet pre-video-store days.
