Survivor (2000) S49 E4

I do miss those days of old Survivor. 39 days of endurance, tested by their competition and nature. New locations each time, not this spa resort they are claiming provide the same hardships now.

It seems that they have very specific roles in mind when vetting the applicants and casting. Even being a “Super Fan” had its advantages strategically, 99% were ready to be on the show both physically and mentally. The new seasons are very performative-based. Everyone wants to be the star of the show, not, you know, win the actual game.

However, it’s not the show to blame, it’s the demographic that’s watching. The show did NOT grow older with the audience who have been watching since the first season; it kind of forgot us and became something else to the new viewers that followed. It’s what time does. It replaces the old with the new to adapt or it perishes. I shudder thinking about what the next twenty years are going to be like. Have to wonder, when Jeff Probst eventually retires, who will they replace him with? 😟

Agree Geo ! But why did that happen ?I think it all started when it became “unlawful for tv producers” Remember the “Little People” shows? I used to love them ! But one of the gals beat another gal on the head and it went to court and they sued etc etc..so they introduced “laws/rules” and it became “inhumane” and “sexist” and all the rest of the “new ways” came into affect. But the audiences were bored without the DRAMA…so they had to bring in the performative stuff , as you say. The pretend fights and the crying and the whining and the rest of the bullshite….so now we are here…at this place of boredom, where we can predict whats going to happen and hating the fact that producers are trying to fool us..yet we can see right through their crap. We feel cheated and robbed of reality….In my case, I watch less and spend more time with my ART and loved ones instead !
