I thought this was underwhelming. It brought nothing new to the story ( hard to do , I know). The acting was off, especially Oscar Isaac. Mia Goth was miscast. There is some really poor CGI. The monster wasn’t really that monstrous. Elizabeth’s story arc is ridiculous. The upbeat ending is terrible. There have been far better versions. This is not even that faithful to the novel ( The wedding sequence in particular)… I respect del Toro but this was a misstep.
