For sure one of the the nastier feelings to experience. I had a marble sized rock embedded in my elbow that prevented me from straightening my arm. I had to dig it out while on the side of the road with my leatherman. The road is merciless even when wearing leathers.
Happened at a place called Angeles Crest highway when a Porsche 911 lost control and came straight at me. Totally my 89 ninja 900 and the car. The bike ended up stuck in the passenger seat that fortunately nobody was in and nobody was majorly injured except me. RR on both legs, arms, back and rump. Slight concussion, some broken toes and fingers but nothing else. So lucky it happened on a straightaway instead of one the turns. Would have been a whole different story. Long way down.
