What started off as a very basic mystery turns into one of the darkest stories this series has to offer so far. This aliens story is heartbreakingly tragic, fake or not, I felt this mans performance as he explained what happened in the final minutes of this episode. Bravo!! And I am just gonna say this lol, Picard didn’t allow $hit! at the end of this episode and I think he knows that when he says “You are free to return to the planet”. I think he even knew after hearing this aliens story his best course of action would be to remain extremely calm, quietly turn around, walk away and never look back lmao!! Much what you would do when you encounter a coiled venemous snake.
I think Picard also realized that no Federation prison could be any worse than this own man’s. The guilt he felt for annihilating an entire species in the revenge of his wife’s death, weighs so heavily on his heart, nothing could be worse.
