I liked and recognized the atmosphere in his old house (one can find them standing like that in the deep woods, up in the north east), and that abounded garage strip when he took right in to the concrete road in the beginning. It reminded me emotionally of spaces one could find around in the far countryside as late as in the early 90ies. That very calm feeling when you as a child are alone in an interesting, and a bit industrious space and you know that nobody will come and disturb your exploration.. Things just left outside.. The serious money have moved on..
Finland before internet was so calm. So up in the corner. An ancient quietness was still alive and moving about like a fragrance of timelessness and endless possibilities, but in nature. It is beautiful how the director is able to catch some of that even in an action movie like this. Also this pain absorbing old time Finn is, or at least was, really a thing. But these super hard dudes are all dead or 95 now. It was a part of the war trauma and the experience of the earlier (pre nation) invasion by the ruthless and violent Swedish and Russian lords.
Being like the train with a manic stoker but without a really reachable engineer. Just one direction and a lot of fire.. forward.. Perkele.

Some things was a bit over the top thou. He could have brushed the glass aside with his feet a bit I think. But emotionally very rewarding watch.

It also sends a message about the potential of our soul’s desires and our love for free life, right, country and nation, to our expansionist neighbor. Finland is by the way a very liberal place.

Right now there are a bit of spear rattling going on here in Europa. I think it is a bit finicky (political posturing and weapon manufacturing related opportunism from the side of the upper class) , but I guess it is good also, that some here in Europe (Belgium, Spain,..) wake up a bit. In Finland we have a comparably small but quite well equipped conscripted army and also a loot of light guns at home (pistols, hunting rifles, shotguns) And some heavier guns also ofc. A lot of illegally bought, old, grease drenched Russian AK-47s are dug down under the forest boulders.. The “better” people with army connection have modern Russian 50mm Kord’s, or older NSV’s, and one can even find old water cooled Maxims if one know the right people to ask.. All just because the experience of our scarily big neighbor and their habit of looking after their national interests first on others expense. Just like USA.
But we are not without blame, the original border was drawn just some 5-10km outside of Petersburg, and they wanted to swap land for obvious security reasons. Finland refused.. It was a reasonable demand imo. So.. yea we lost a big chunk instead. It is better to be a good neighbor.. But what does the upper class care about canon fodder anyway..

So many Socialists where starved to death in camps here just 25 years earlier. Whole families. Deserters and socialists was nailed to rocks on the front line and left with a gun and some bullets with the hope that they would take out some enemies in pure self preservation. A very pragmatic attitude from the army command..
But now suddenly that all seam old and it is more about micro-controller programming, sensors, AI and actuators for kill drone building.. Nimble gaming thumbs.. Strange times indeed.

An overall good film IMO. Beautiful gore splash! 🤯🤗
