Ultimately not very satisfying, full of empty promises like life. We get there but don’t know it until age or happenstance eliminates our idealism and renders us cynics.
I would have used a better camera man for the steadicam and pulled back more. It’s a very focused and economical film with little room for poetics. The scene where Cage’s character talks about the earthquake is good, you could say it makes a point, it seemed to come out of nowhere and be an attempt to define the character. Perhaps the point is that everything in life is and can be arbitrary. Love, loss, no matter who you are, the truth comes to you sooner or later.
Thanks to the uploaders, the film makes you think if you can.
