Lowell Blackford (Kay Kyser) is blessed with a gift of music,but also cursed with a hereditary "evil eye" which hypnotizes people,and he is virtually a recluse. He goes in search of a Broadway publisher for a symphonietta he has written, and ends up crashing an audition at the Swing Publishing Company, where he meets torch singer Ginger Gray (Marilyn Maxwell) and her fiance and promoter, Waltzy Malone (William Gargan). Ginger accidently walks off with his music and he follows her to a gym where Waltzy's fighter, "Killer" Kennedy (Nat Pendleton), has just been kayoed by his sparring partner. Waltzy learns of Lowell's hypnotic power and believes that Kennedy can win the championship if Lowell uses his power against the champ. He arranges for Lowell to lead the band at the club where Ginger sings. The latter objects to the role she is to play in getting Lowell to use his "evil eye" but Waltzy persuades her to go along by telling Lowell that Kennedy is her brother and it means everything to her if he wins the fight. Lowell, after having Ginger turn down his marriage proposal, joins the Tank Corps. Waltzy is frantic and he has a phoney doctor tell Lowell he needs rest followed by attending a prize fight, and also tells him Ginger has accepted his proposal.

In this fictional-story short (which takes Self listings out of the equation), George Stoll(as Georgie Stoll) and his hot-swing orchestra, and the band's singer, Virginia Dale, appearing in this short under her real name, Virginia Paxton, are in a radio station building hoping to get an audition. Recognizing the president of a broadcasting company,Royal C. Cummings (Maurice Cass), as he enters the elevator, Stoll and band members, with their instruments, enter it with him. THey toss out the operator and proceed to audition for the outraged Cummins , while making many up-and-down trips on the elevator. Once off the elevator he summons the police who promptly arrive and promptly arrest the studio band. Georgie Stoll (as he was most frequently billed) and his band get the gig, and a contract. The singing of Virginia Dale nee Virginia Paxton didn't hurt their chances any at all.

In 1969, the rock band Sweetwater led by lead singer Nansi Nevins opened Woodstock and subsequently received considerable media attention, appearing on a number of television shows. However, just as they appeared to be receiving a really lucky break, they just disappeared. Thirty years later, a cable television reporter for MIX-TV, a musical station, is removed from her show because of being stoned on the air. Her station gives her a choice of being dismissed or investigating what happened to Sweetwater. A blending of modern day fiction and past fact is then blended in this biographical story.

A unique show was staged every Sunday night at the famous Trocadero nightclub in Hollywood. with agents, talent scouts and studio execs attending, plus many big-name stars of the movies. On this particular Sunday night, the looking-for-stardom (or a job) acts included the Brian Sisters, Connee Boswell, Peter Lind Hayes (billed as Lind Hayes). Reginald Denny was also on hand posing as a candid cameraman snapping shots of all the acts, and kidding the celebs in attendance as he gets them to pose for him.
