The Poseidon Adventure
( 2005 )
Welcome aboard the majestic S.S. Poseidon--a virtual floating city--as it departs from Athens on a month-long cruise. Among the 2,500 hundred passengers is Mike Rogo, undercover agent for Homeland Security. Among the crew of 1,200 is Kasim Badawi, a terrorist conspiring to send an explosive message to the world. Acting on word of the impending danger, the Poseidon pushes its engine at full speed toward the nearest port, slicing through the churning waters of an escalating storm and directly into unavoidable catastrophe. Only minutes into the new year, the bomb detonates, leaving the shredded hull vulnerable to the roiling seas pouring into the wounded Poseidon. The 136,000-ton beast capsizes, leaving a chosen few underwater and terrified for their lives. It's hell upside down as the disparate survivors make their way up… to the bottom of the S.S. Poseidon: Richard Clarke, a husband and father torn between a mistress he must save and the family he can't live without; European pop star Aimee Bediér-Anderson, embarking on an American career and a new Hollywood marriage; Belle Rosen, a widow enduring in the name of her beloved late husband; and Rogo and his reviled prisoner Badawi, handcuffed together in a personal war of justice, sacrifice, and revenge. Through the twisted metal inferno of the inverted ship, they must outlast the inevitable as the Poseidon sinks deeper and deeper into darkness. From this nightmarish maze emerges a drama of human spirit and resilience, of life-and-death emotions and psychological terrors, and of the unyielding strength of the human will to survive against all odds.

Bewitched
( 2005 )
Out in California's San Fernando Valley, Isabel is trying to reinvent herself. A naïve, good-natured witch, she is determined to disavow her supernatural powers and lead a normal life. At the same time, across town, Jack Wyatt, a tall, charming actor is trying to get his career back on track. He sets his sights on an updated version of the beloved situation comedy Bewitched (1964), re-conceived as a starring vehicle for him in the role of the mere-mortal Darrin. Fate steps in when Jack accidentally runs into Isabel. He is immediately attracted to her and her nose, which bears an uncanny resemblance to the nose of Elizabeth Montgomery, who played Samantha on Bewitched (1964). He becomes convinced she could play Samantha in his new series. Isabel is also taken with Jack, seeing him as the quintessential mortal man with whom she can settle down and lead the normal life she so desires. It turns out they're both right, but in ways neither of them ever imagined.

Not all Romans were happy with this situation, and in time it was decided that General Aetius (Powers Boothe), a brave yet unscrupulous leader who attempted to usurp the rule of Empress Placidia (Alice Krige), was the only man who could confront Attila on his own terms. Aetius recognized Attila's skills as a leader, and decided the best way to prevent him from invading Rome was to lead him into an alliance, as Rome and the Huns joined forces against a third nation. But despite their mutual respect, it soo...

Margaret Cho: I'm the One That I Want (TV Special 2000)
( 2000 )
November, 1999, Margaret Cho is home in San Francisco at the Warfield Theater. Cho structures her monologue loosely on her professional life's trajectory: doing stand-up, cast in an ABC-TV sitcom, losing 30 pounds in two weeks for the part, the show's cancellation, a descent into booze, pills, and self-loathing, and a resurrection into her own voice, her own shape, and being the one she wants. Along the way we visit Karl Langerfeld in jail, a lesbian cruise ship, a TV Guide photo shoot, a hospital, bars, and her family's Polk Street bookshop. Takes on being a fag hag, speeding up felatio, casual daily racism, and her mother's phone messages highlight a scabrous, brilliant performance.

Jack Dee: Live in London
( 1999 )
Filmed at London's Gielgud Theatre at the culmination of his 1998 tour, Jack Dee Live and Uncut puts the UK's favourite "whinger" in his element-on a stage performing stand-up comedy. Dee has presence in his orange shirt and tailored blue suit, but although he's derogatory about himself-he's a stay-at-home man, he's short, he's fat-he's also unapologetic. Dee isn't afraid to throw harsh words at his audience or swear like the proverbial navvy along with an onslaught of observational humour. He doesn't go in for surrealism, one-liners or complex structural payoffs. He prefers to tackle one subject at a time, explore it, then move on. His themes are universal rather than original but he usually brings a fresh perspective. Take builders - he puts himself at the centre of their Neanderthal attentions rather than women.

Introducing Dorothy Dandridge
( 1999 )
This biography of Dorothy Dandridge follows her career through early days on the club circuit with her sister to her turn in movies, including becoming the first black actress to win a Best Actress Nomination in 1954 for "Carmen Jones", to her final demise to prescription drugs, which was debated whether it was suicide or accidental. Brent Spiner plays her faithful manager who stood beside her through all of the roller coaster of her career. The film also examines her love affair with director Otto Preminger, which is shown to have probably initially helped her career, but later probably led her to some wrong decisions. The film also examines 50's racism as the black star is not permitted to use white bathrooms or the Vegas pool. In the first situation, she was given a bathroom cup to pee in. In the second situation, the hotel drained the pool and scrubbed it after she dared put her foot in the water.

Movie:
Mandela and de Klerk
( 1997 )
On June 12, 1964, Nelson Mandela, along with numerous political detainees, was sentenced to life imprisonment in what remains the most sensational treason trial in the history of South Africa. The incarceration of Mandela and other political prisoners on Robben Island would become a symbol of the struggle to end apartheid and win freedom for the black majority in South Africa. On February 2, 1990, President F.W. De Klerk stood before Parliament and announced the legalization of the African National Congress and a host of other banned political organizations. At the same time, he announced that Nelson Mandela, having served twenty-seven years in prison, would be released within seven days. Yet the world, and indeed most South Africans, knew little about how this momentous occasion came to pass. Until now. This movie was filmed in South Africa. Most of the locations are those where the actual events took place, and the dramatized sequences are augmented with newsreel footage to ensure the most accurate portrayal possible of recent historical events.
