During this period Warner Brothers released a lot of gangster films since that was had captured the public imagination at the time. Many of these films had a certain formula that the studio followed, but some stood out like James Cagney & Pat O’Brien’s Angels With Dirty Faces, so Tex Avery thought why not duplicate that formula, port it over to Leon Schlesinger’s Termite Terrace animation studio, pay tribute to that film & rip it apart at the same time with a story written by Jack Miller. The story was done so well that some locations chose to ban the toon altogether since they felt the criminal activity was a bit too strong. However, Tex liked the basic premise of this toon enough that he later remade once he went over to MGM four years later in a toon called Who Killed Who.
Mel Blanc, Danny Webb and John Deering do the voice work . Looney Tunes music director Carl Stalling does the very fitting & effective musical score, often quoting from other Warner pictures.
The lead animator is Sid Sutherland along with brothers Charles McKimson and director Bob McKimson, as well as Virgil Ross and respected animator Rob Scribner. Editing & sound effects were done by Treg Brown, the very man who discovered & hired former big band leader & violin teacher to Jack Benny, Mel Blanc. The backgrounds are done by John Didrik Johnsen.
