I live in the UK so know little about your president, but I think the parallels are more to do with words having new meanings and the population being ruled through a fear of speaking out or saying the wrong thing than trying to paint your guy over there as the problem.
The issue is greater than 1 person and focussing your energy in that direction is misleading you away from the real perpetrators.

That’s exactly what Trump is doing. He is the root of the problem in the U.S. Of course the issue is greater than one person, but if that one person has influence over millions it can never be neglected, or it can, to the people’s detriment.
