Sad this show won’t have a season 2. Apple says it doesn’t have award potential, but I think Patricia Arquette’s performance deserves some sort of award. She’s amazing in this and is the one thing that makes it worth watching to the end.

Norma Jean & Marilyn (1996)
random000 2 points 10 days ago*.

Norma Jean Mortensen portrayed by Ashley Judd transforms herself into the greatest character portrayal of her life, Marilyn Monroe as done by Mira Sorvino. The film is interesting for that reason alone, using different actors to show the difference, but it doesn’t go deep or deviate from the character assassination that’s typical of bios about her. It’s good for it’s era, but not surprising.

George White's Scandals (1945)
random000 1 points 10 days ago*.

George White was an impresario not unlike Flo Ziegfeld who offered large review shows that almost every film star & musician performed in. Oodles of talent such as the greatest dancer of all time Eleanor Powell, tapper Ann Miller, The Three Stooges, most of the cast of The Wizard Of Oz, comics like Joan Davis, pianist-comic Jimmy Durante (Frosty The Snowman), Dolores Costello (who’s that? That is Drew Barrymore’s grandma, whom comic Lou Costello named himself after he loved her so much), Zanuck’s protege the great Alice Faye (married to band leader Phil Harris), silent film great Louise Brooks, and more.

The review ran about as long as The Ziegfeld Follies did, & wrapped up about the same time. George made 5 films & was in some of them as himself. He even wrote the screenplay for The Ziegfeld Follies with Astaire, Judy Garland & Lucy Ball- as well as Duffy’s Tavern (which is where the Archie Bunker character grew from as well as Moe the bartender from The Simpsons, & also a few other cartoon characters).

Bugs pays homage to who he drew inspiration from, Groucho himself. If you’ve never listened to old time radio (OTR) game show You Bet Your Life with Groucho Marx, these bits are taken from that. There was also the tv version, which is great since you can see the guests Groucho brought out, including his own daughter Melinda (mother of Jade) & her buddy Candy Bergen.

Daffy Duck in Hollywood (Short 1938) (1938)
random000 1 points 10 days ago.

There are 3 distinct eras of Daffy. He began as an utterly unmanageable nutcase as imagined by Tex Avery. After Tex went over to MGM in 1942, famed Jerry Lewis director Frank Tashlin restyled Daffy as a pushy rude loudmouth in the screwball comedy style, and he was often paired with Porky as a comedy team. Then Chuck Jones got a hold of him in 1951 & transformed him into a very self-centered greedy coward, famously pairing him with Bugs Bunny.

This is the wacked out wing-nut version of The Duck when he really was actually Daffy.

Swooner Crooner (Short 1944) (1944)
random000 1 points 10 days ago.

Bobby Soxer era Frank Sinatra was fairly thin & there were plenty of jokes about it. He loved it when Warner Bros poked fun at him - but Bing Crosby hated the attention & threatened the animation studio plenty.

Thugs with Dirty Mugs (Short 1939) (1939)
random000 1 points 10 days ago.

During this period Warner Brothers released a lot of gangster films since that was had captured the public imagination at the time. Many of these films had a certain formula that the studio followed, but some stood out like James Cagney & Pat O’Brien’s Angels With Dirty Faces, so Tex Avery thought why not duplicate that formula, port it over to Leon Schlesinger’s Termite Terrace animation studio, pay tribute to that film & rip it apart at the same time with a story written by Jack Miller. The story was done so well that some locations chose to ban the toon altogether since they felt the criminal activity was a bit too strong. However, Tex liked the basic premise of this toon enough that he later remade once he went over to MGM four years later in a toon called Who Killed Who.

Mel Blanc, Danny Webb and John Deering do the voice work . Looney Tunes music director Carl Stalling does the very fitting & effective musical score, often quoting from other Warner pictures.

The lead animator is Sid Sutherland along with brothers Charles McKimson and director Bob McKimson, as well as Virgil Ross and respected animator Rob Scribner. Editing & sound effects were done by Treg Brown, the very man who discovered & hired former big band leader & violin teacher to Jack Benny, Mel Blanc. The backgrounds are done by John Didrik Johnsen.

Scaredy Cat (1948)
random000 1 points 10 days ago.

Our favorite Sylvester The Cat toons are the ones without Tweety, who is just too infantile for our tastes most of the time. In this toon, legendary animation director Chuck Jones & writer Michael Maltese just leave the annoying bird out of the picture & instead pair the Maine Coon Cat inspired Sylvester with a much more refined Porky The Pig as the straight man who has just purchased a not-so-homey & somewhat spooky house that creeps out Sylvester. It looks like the house from Psycho. Except this house was created more than a decade before Hitchcock made that movie, so director Chuck Jones beat director Alfred to the punch. Sylvester is just not down with what this place has to offer at all since it’s inhabited by seemingly malevolent mice that set up the poor sloppy tomcat for a series of mean-spirited gags. In fact, this is the 1st toon where Chuck directed Sylvester & also where he got his name. Previously he was called Thomas or had no name at all. Chuck did a total of 3 toons with Sylvester as Porky’s cat. The other two are 1954 Claws For Alarm then 1955 Jumpin’ Jupiter. Mel Blanc provides all the voices.

Looney Tunes music director Carl Stalling picks some pretty funny music quotes for this including Chopin’s Waltz in A minor & Funeral March, Taps, Dinner Music For A Pack Of Hungry Cannibals, Rock-A-Bye Baby & Sweet Dreams Sweetheart.

Lloyd Vaughan is the lead animator. The rest of Chuck’s Looney Tunes animation team at Termite Terrace are Ken Harris, Phil Monroe, Ben Washam, Abe Levitow & Rick Thompson. Special animation effects are done by A.C. Gamer. The layouts are done by Bob Gribbroek and Pete Alvarado did the backgrounds. Treg Brown does all the sound & editing.

Claws for Alarm (Short 1954) (1954)
random000 1 points 10 days ago.

Chuck Jones did a total of 3 toons where Sylvester never spoke at all and he is paired with Porky Pig as his cat. This is the 2nd one. The 1st one is 1948 Scaredy Cat then the 3rd one is 1958 Jumpin’ Jupiter. These tend to be fairly Halloweeny toons and this particular one is pretty dark & spooky since the two travel companions are being tormented by some fairly nasty mice that have evil intent. Here, the mice are quite malicious & want more than a pound of flesh in this Chuck Jones popular spooky classic. It’s so popular that optical illusions in this toon would be copied by many over the years, including Star Trek. Mel Blanc provides all the voices.

Looney Tunes music director Carl Stalling quotes some appropriate tunes for this horror themed toon, including The Dying Cowboy, Goblins In The Steeple, Sweet Dreams Sweetheart and Chopin’s Funeral March.

Lloyd Vaughan is the lead animator. The rest of Chuck’s Looney Tunes animation team at Termite Terrace are Ken Harris, Phil Monroe, Ben Washam, Abe Levitow & Rick Thompson. Special animation effects are done by A.C. Gamer. The layouts are done by Maurice Noble and Philip DeGuard did the backgrounds. Editing & sounds are both done by Treg Brown. Leon Schlesinger sold his animation studio to Warner 4 years earlier, so this Golden Age of Looney Tunes flourishes under studio boss Edward Selzer for about 14 years until Warner mothballs their animation department.

Well that took a turn didnt it?! This was amazing, acting was great and even though I was feeling “uncomfortable” I could not stop watching. Literally binged it at once. One of the episodes made me question wether it was based on his own life and coming here to the comments after binging I see that indeed it was. The person saying ep 4 was brutal was not lying! From that episode it takes an unexpected turn. Definitely worth watching

andys189 2 points 10 days ago.

The fourth episode is incredibly hard to watch. Absolutely gut-wrenching but at the same time I am glad his story was told in such a compelling way. No poor CGI, weird colors, or camera effects either. Just raw, straight forward, unabashed story telling with amazing acting. To relive that on film for the world to see is some serious bravery.

Just started watching it, but I like more detecting and less sexing. It’s o.k., but the only reason they can drag the story out for a whole season is that the sex scenes take up so much time. Not for me. I like the story line, but I’m old, and sex scenes do nothing for me anymore.

I’m almost with you on this, it has become very predictable and so has all 3 FBI series, I didn’t finish one of them and didn’t bother to watch the 3rd one. I gave up on the Equalizer too, it has become predictable. At least the Brits have some good crime dramas and Blue Lights 2nd season started Monday.

TVWacher71 1 points 10 days ago.

I agree with you on everything except Equalizer. Equalizer is a good show for the most part. They have had an episode or two where, I’m come on writers, do better. But most of the episodes, in my opinion have been good.

I am trying to get into Parish, I saw half of the first episode, but tapped out after a while. I am going to give it one more chance it might grow on me.

OMG Melissa is NEVER happy! He needs to have a job, NOW. but he can’t be a personal trainer, she don’t want him working with pizza either. The only job she mentioned was driving a truck, but when he was moving out of his mom’s to her place, she called his mom (who she hates) and asked her to make the drive with him cause she was worried he couldn’t make it by himself! So why does she think a truck driver is a good job? She is unbearably mean. She even wants to control when he takes a $hit.
