Simon, an idealistic goof, has his dreams shattered when his long-term girlfriend, Amy, abandons him for another man. Deeply shaken, Simon falls into a tailspin and loses everything, including his home. Unmoored and adrift, he seeks shelter in a ramshackle, spooky old house where he encounters Chauncey - the surly ghost of a long dead whaling Captain. Chauncey begrudgingly reveals that because of a seemingly innocuous drink Simon took from a mystical chalice, they are now supernaturally Soul Bound by the ancient power of Ghost Rules - meaning it is their destiny to help each other find their souls’ purpose for existing. Desperate to win back his girlfriend and find meaning in his life, Simon is elated to undertake such a daunting task. Chauncey, a self styled lone-wolf and curmudgeon, not so much. However, seeing as he is just as desperate to end his supernatural binding to Simon, they forge an unlikely friendship.
