Gereon Wetzel takes us to a parallel universe that seems strangely familiar but full of absurdities. We see a bus driving school practicing gas-saving driving on the empty streets of a ghost town, we meet a guardsman looking after 30.000 empty flats that tries to get at least a sun tan, a shepherd herding his flock between the ruins, English tourists that play golf on a totally abandoned course or illegal immigrants that settle in the naked skeleton of high rising apartment buildings. In breathtaking pictures and stories Wetzel shows us the insane implications of a world wide crisis that hit Spain and its formerly booming real estate market. Over 3,6 Million housing units are unoccupied but whoever cannot pay the mortgage is homeless. |
