Slam documents the first Belgrade workshop on the art of writing and performing slam poetry, held from 6 to 26 March 2010. By focusing on the story about the workshop and its participants, the film examines both slam, as a kind of socially committed poetry performance and the phenomenon that is the sheer popularity of the genre, manifested in the Poetry Ring - Active Poetry Training events, namely the festival that has been bringing together poets from all over Serbia, the region and the wider international scene for four years now. In its first year as a regular event, Poetry Ring became the most popular literary stage performance in Belgrade, bringing together a large number of authors and poetry lovers. Organizing a slam workshop was a first attempt to add an educational aspect to Poetry Ring, namely, to make it an event where young poets are given an opportunity to further develop their artistic (writing and performing) skills. The film focuses on the Poetry Ring events and the scene that emerged around them. It provides answers regarding the nature of slam, how it came to be and the reasons for its taking the world by storm, the aesthetic features of the genre and its potential for making an intervention in the existing, local context. In this film, Dragan Protic - member of the Skart (Rejects) art group and Poetry Ring founder, Marko Aksentijevic - cultural worker and a member of the Poetry Ring editorial board, Minja Bogavac - slam poet, playwright and author of the concept of this workshop and Ana Marija Grbic, Stefan Kostadinovic and Bratislav Veljic - poets, who encountered this kind of poetry and performance for the first time at that slam workshop, talk about the Poetry Ring events, poetry, performance and methods of educating young authors.
