Elders of Chawaytiri, a Quechua speaking community of weavers and herders in the Andean highlands, guide collaboration with National Museum of the American Indian to document their llama culture and way of life for future generations. Under a horrible ‘hacienda system’ for generations, the comuneros of Chawaytiri regained title to their lands and reset their traditional government system (Wachu) in the past thirty years. Andean traditional culture of anyi and mink’a (personal and community reciprocity) and important ceremonials of appreciation for the Pacha Mama and the mountaintop Apus form a basis of a community revitalization process to meet the modern world. Filmed in Quechua, subtitled in versions of English and Spanish. |
