Director David Fishel channels his surreal style to bring the song to life in this mesmerizing, unnerving music video/short film, complete with one of his signature surprise endings. Fishel’s interpretation of “Birdman,” a ranting, raving homeless oracle, is juxtaposed with the story told by The Brute Chorus about a shaman casting spells on his neighbor. Frontman James Steel opens his tale with “I’m gonna drink myself immortal and smoke myself blind,” quoting a heretical hymn from centuries ago. It’s an ancient start to a modern rendition of what happens when black magic just goes wrong. |
