Seven pals decide to take a few days’holidays to free up the time necessary to pull three enormous pranks. Their aim is to ridicule three established bodies: the army, the church and the administration. Quite arbitrarily, they set their hearts on two peaceful sub-prefectures, Ambert and Issoire. Broudier, disguised as a government minister, turns up at the barracks, demands and obtains the organization of night maneuvers. The following day, Bénin, dressed up as a reverend, preaches in the cathedral of Issoire a sermon against the precepts of the Church.
