‘Lord of Miracles’ is an observational portrait of the annual Catholic procession of ‘El Senor de los Milagros’ in Lima, Peru. What began as a small cult practiced by Afro-Peruvians in the late 18th century has now spread all over the world and is one of the largest religious processions in the world. This film attempts to embed the viewer amidst the procession in an effort to illustrate the unique ways religious devotion is manifested in this celebration. Prayer, song and the physical carrying of the icon are highlighted as rituals that have been maintained over centuries in reverence of ‘The Lord of Miracles’. |
