A typical weepy of the 1920’s. Young Jack Cardiff (yes, the Oscar winning cinematographer) plays an Oliver Twist-type beggar boy with drunken parents (played by his real Mum and Dad) who force him to beg in the streets for money. An ailing bed ridden sister tells him wistfully how she would so love to have a real rose. He trudges through the mushy streets and, as a posh goes by, he sees a lady throw some discarded roses from her window… |
