The Oakland Song opens this short documentary to images of nighttime, home for Oakland piano bar The Alley. More about Oakland and The Alley’s history, as well as personal connections are divulged through a medley of songs and interviews. Rod Dibble, piano player for over 50 years, and a group of regular singers share their passion for live performance and the American Songbook. Regulars sing their favorite songs and how singing makes them feel. The Alley Cats includes historical information about the time The Alley opened into its 80 years of business. The film ends with the regulars paying homage to their piano player, and wondering what will happen to the last remaining piano bar in Oakland. |
