Bijay comes to Calcutta from Siliguri for higher studies and has a chance meeting with Rupa. Bijay experiences what is termed “Love at first sight” according to his mentor and maternal uncle Prabha mama. Although Bijay comes from a rich and affluent background, he is very down to earth and hence befriends Rana in the college despite the initial friction between them. Bijay keeps pursuing his love interest Rupa in the shopping malls, computer classes, railway station unaware of the fact that Rupa is Ranas younger sister. But Bijay sacrifices his love when he founds out this fact and also an incident that brought turmoil in Rana’s life. Bijay does not want to betray and hurt Rana in the same way as he could well understand Rana’s emotions. But Rupa has a change of heart when she realizes this and is torn between her family and her love. So she attempts suicide and it is Prabhu mama who salvages the situation by bringing out the reality in front of Rupa’s family and asking Bijay become Rupa’s life partner.
