In a desperate attempt to return home, a young soldier risks his life to escape from Joseph Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Army in Central Africa after years of being force to fight. When a stranger makes a quick decision that endangers his own life to protect the young soldier, the stranger is forced to overcome the pain of his own son’s abduction by the LRA years before. In a journey to bring the soldier home, they encounter the violent opposition of a community who has suffered years of brutality by this rebel army and wrestles with the choice to forgive. ‘Defection’ was shot on location in NE DRC with non-actors and will be used in Mobile Cinema screenings throughout Central Africa to promote peaceful reception of defectors.
