Details:

The MANIFEST HOPE: DC Gallery, presented by SHEPARD FAIREY, and Jennifer Gross, showcased the grassroots art movement carrying Obama to victory. This three day gathering of top artists is documented during Obama’s historical inauguration week. Shot largely handheld, in cinema verite-style, filmmaker Alfred Gragg captures this response to a visual call-to-action— along themes of Health Care, Workers Rights, and the Green Economy. Candid interviews reveal the creative process of artist-activists like RON ENGLISH, MIKE MURPHY, and SHEPARD FAIREY. Cartoon footage, musical performances by SANTOGOLD, DE LA SOUL, and MOBY, round out this multi-media documentary. The film reveals the secret ‘art of protest’, as underground artists infiltrate the mainstream and shape history. Their grass-roots ‘do it yourself’ ethos united them in this historical event.
