‘One Last Thing’opens with frail old Vlad approaching a bus stop in South London. He is looking lost as he is trying to reach a renowned Indian restaurant suggested by a friend: it is the very final task on his bucket list. Years after years after decades, Vlad roamed streets and countries spreading fear. Vlad was a charming, yet heartless dark haired man, ready to trick and seduce in order to satisfy his greed for blood. But since the death of his beloved wife, 40 odd years ago, having had no kids and the last one of his kind, he found himself alone and developing a sense of guilt for the years of raids. That’s when he decided to turn his life around: to surrender the gift of eternal youth and pursue a rather unusual “bucket list”. Vlad has been avoiding human contact as much as possible - his reputation and his looks never helped him in keeping his new course. With time passing and fast aging, things got a bit easier: his looks less scary, his eyes more human, he learnt to conceal his teeth enough to avoid being stared at. But to complete his very last task, he needs to be bold enough and travel back to busy London, a place of ill memories and dangers. As he is trying to catch the bus, without a clue of modern technology, Google Maps, Oyster cards and whatnot, he is forced to ask for help. Marya, a nurse, is also waiting at the stop, impatient for the bus to arrive. Vlad doesn’t know yet that it’s the chance encounter and unexpected bond with Marya that will actually make it possible to tick that one last thing off.
