June 1976. During this summer of a relentless heatwave and drought, Gus, 13, reads his comic books, helps his father with his farm work and runs free with Mado, the wild child from his village. But, slowly around him, his reassuring and familiar universe starts to crack… His mother, always a tender and gentle presence, begins drifting away and, as his father looses himself in alcohol, Gus is forced to grow up fast and take care of the farm. And when he discovers his mother’s secret, he says good-bye to the innocence of his childhood. |
