Love, Tragedy and A Goldfish - Exploring misplaced affection; a young, working class girl spends her free time caring for her pet goldfish. 11 year old Sammy, an only child, lives on an estate in London with her mother, Jan and her pet goldfish. Sammy’s real father left some time ago and the goldfish, however pathetic a pet that may seem, is Sammy’s sense of security and is everything to her. With her single mother working late most nights, Sammy channels her loneliness into a heart warming and unusual bond towards her pet fish. The goldfish, reflects Sammy’s powerlessness and also her reliance on herself as her only beacon of strength. Emotions run high one night as Jan’s drunken boyfriend returns home and tragedy strikes.
