Thumbs up so far! An accomplished rendering of pre-WWII Britain. As is typical of English productions, the setting and presentation are remarkable, and, so far, the historical accuracy is on the mark. Fine casting and dialog, along with quite a bit of humor, keep the story flowing effortlessly. Hopefully the rest will be in the same vein…

Cavett and Groucho…it was always a treat to watch and listen to the interactions between the two of them. Groucho Marx…I am just fascinated with his ability to take a comment or phrase, and change nothing but the intonation and inflection, thereby giving an entirely different perspective to the interpretation of either…Cavett trying (with much difficulty) to keep from cracking up while Groucho was either telling a crazy story, firing off a littany of jokes…or bursting into song…
What Cavett and Groucho had cemented into an intuitive, endearing friendship, the likes of which are rarely seen in today’s society.
Dick Cavett, ever cool, calm and collected, was always having relevant discussions regarding current events with the guests that appeared on the talk show. With an extremely diverse network of friends, Cavett was able to gain access to a host of subjects for both the talk show and the interview specials. As far as his guests go, I can’t recall anyone ever getting pissed off enough to kick a chair, or walk off stage…and he hosted some some of the era’s most iconic top musicians, actors, athletes, public personalties, writers, etc on the show…

very curious what people who believe in the cause of a unified Irish Republic think of this and other history buff. very good miniseries and even if your someone like me who does believe in a united Ireland and thinks the British and the sectarian Protestants where totally in the wrong, the miniseries shows that the IRA were equally brutal and just as guilty for war crimes. Again curious what people think especially regarding Gerry Adams and how he’s depicted. Learned a lot of things, like I had no idea Adams has always denied being an IRA member. LOL wow! anywho do enjoy!

Awful. I gave this a chance because of the good cast, hoping it would be a bit like McDonald & Dodds, but the writing is lousy — lame joke after lame joke, character cliches, clumsy dialogue to establish a character’s backstory instead of revealing it organically (ex.: “You’re single and live with your mum”). I couldn’t get through 10 minutes of this. Awful.

In all honesty, Jean is freakin’ annoying. Always having mental issues, passing out and such.

Pacino is absolute garbage now, but so was Brando the last 20 years of his career I guess. Stevens probably grew up dreaming of the opportunity to act with Pacino and took the chance despite his recent string of meh performances.

Its called a dark comedy. Horrible twisted things are funny to some folks. I was cackling the entire way trough out the film. You should check out “Death to Smoochie” another dark comedy that you might find actually amusing.

Joaquin Phoenix is also in this movie and labeled as a modern day western. Still not a lot on the plot, but here is a tidbit. A couple gets stranded in a small New Mexico town during the Covid-19 pandemic. Not sure who the couple is but it might be Emma Stone and Austin Butler. The movie will have a lot of political commentary and a lot of gore and violence. We can assume Phoenix is playing the quintessential sheriff doing the violence, and he has aspirations to become the mayor which will drive a wedge between many of the town’s citizens. Just wonder what role Pedro Pascal will have in this movie. The word is it might be released in May or a bit later in the summer.

Suranne Jones will be starring in a new UK Netflix’s drama called Hostage. This is what it will be about…..”When the British Prime Minister’s husband is kidnapped and the visiting French President is blackmailed, the two political leaders both face unimaginable choices,” reads the synopsis.
“Forced into a fierce rivalry where their political futures, and lives, might hang in the balance, can they work together to uncover the plot that threatens them both?” The release date is August 21, 2025.

Aaah the first season was so freakin good

113 year old 1st full length feature of Cleopatra with The Helen Gardner Players. Although there’s a TCM restoration with a soundtrack & color tinting in 2000, this file is the original 1960s black & white silent restoration with no cards.

Leonor Valera is the last of the Cleopatras, The VII, in this 2 part dramatization about the last of the Macedonian Greek Ptolemys who ruled Egypt after Alexander The Great died. Both parts are in one file.

AstroBoy animators Tezuka & Yamamoto did this Animerama trilogy & this is the 1st one. The 2nd Cleopatra & 3rd Belladonna Of Sadness are much easier to find than this one. Our version is a censored cut with a half an hour removed & Spanish subtitles. However, out of nowhere in 2020 a North American version surfaced on disc that is English dubbed. We have blind folk in our family & would prefer that version, but it’s still elusive to us. No dice on that one, darn it.

These are wonderful works of art that are truly of their time in a very good way, yet it’s easy to see the techniques of Fleischer from 30 years earlier, but also easy to see this trilogy’s influence on Williams, Bluth, Tartakovsky, Noizumi, Green & peers. There’s a variety of multi-media styles from classical Greece to late 60’s psychedelia in the animation, & the music is so good, we’ve made audios for our own rotation. These works are brilliant, but are controversial for pedestrian reasons, so a minority don’t want this collection listed or available to collectors, so good luck on your treasure hunt.
