Back to the Frontier (2025) S1 E1
Peace2yaa 2 points 5 months ago. (Contains Spoilers)

So many people are going to have a very rough time if something happens to our power grid! You are crying bc your children will have to eat meat from a can?? Girl, you had better be thanking the good Lord that you have that can of ham to feed them!! What will you do when you have to kill a chicken, pluck it and then cook it yourself? I grew up on a farm. We had 3 gardens, cattle, hogs, chickens, ducks and huge pond with fish. We had running water, but we got our drinking water from a spring. People are too lazy these days and I don’t know if any of these families will make it. Especially the 2 dads. No maids out on the frontier boys, lol. Yeah, I don’t know if I will be able to watch this without getting aggravated. Just me though. I’ll give it one more episode to decide.

Dexter: Resurrection (2025)

I’d never watched Dexter before but the first episode seemed pretty good and it was easy to see where the story is. Is it worth going back to watch the Original Series or the Original Sin or New Blood episodes?

Excellent first season, especially the scenes with Bosch, but he’s looking way too young. Me thinks there has been some surgical witchery going on there. Looks good, though! Looking forward to Season 2.

Piglet 2 points 5 months ago.

I agree AmieWarren. Good 1st episode and will continue watching. Crime dramas have come a long way since the days of the 1960’s Dragnet and Hawaii-5 0. 5 0 was a lot better than Dragnet that was for sure. Wonder if there is some AI witchery going on? I saw a still photo of him and he did look a bit younger.

I thought Lydia was ridiculous, but she slayed that Lipsync. I can not stand Mistress this season.

Lydia’s wig slayed Lydia and that lip sync! It was too big/much hair for her. I bet MM convinced Lydia to use that wig knowing it looked terrible in order to sabotage her OWN drag daughter’s chance at winning the lip synch. What a fat hateful c*nt!

Lazy writing #1: Sorry Dexter but the “Dark Passenger” doesn’t use his phone to call a driver so you can’t track him through his phone.

Lazy writing #2: The serial killer elaborately hides his face using infrared lights in his hoodie, yet carries a backpack with his company’s name in BIG letters on.

Lazy writing #3 & #4: Where was this hotel’s security? All hotels have security! Butchering a body in a large hotel’s kitchen without getting caught? SMDH - Do better!

The lead actor is amazing! Alexander showed so much emotions with very little gestures so did the whole crew. Perhaps the most simple yet the best show of the year.. Beautifully done. Can’t say how much I look forward to next season(s) and I hope they don’t sleep years on it.

I agree! This series has been a most-welcome distraction in this f.ing scorching summer devastating some parts of the planet. It is now 37 C in Ankara, Turkey as I write this. I hope the series continues, I like him: witty with sometimes sardonic overtones, honest and compassionate. It’s high time he chose another name for himself though: sec-unit is even more awkward than murderbot.

I’m not the type of person who likes to watch movies/tv shows about serial killers. We see what they do, how they do it. But I thought with this being a 1931 movie, we wouldn’t see the gore etc. I may watch this movie even though it has subtitles.

The right queen was eliminated, should’ve not been in the semi-finals anyway. Can’t wait to see who’s coming back, if it’s this week’s eliminated queen, the season is rigged.

Ballard (2025)

Discounting any woke whatever, the acting is really distracting in this and most of the actors here I’ve seen in other things and they’re fine or even good. Something feels wrong about it, like trying to persuade the audience too hard that we should believe in the competence and bravado of each character and doing the thing where they say instead of show these things.

I’ll still watch it because it’s the only Bosch-universe thing left and I’ve heard that Titus is going to appear in the show but if you’re going in expecting Bosch or even a level below Bosch, set your expectations lower than that. Though I was shocked to see its reviews were as glowing as they are, so maybe you or others won’t see things the way I do. But in seeing some user reviews much has been changed from the novels to no particular purpose and I have to imagine some detriments (Parker doesn’t exist in the books and is basically a stand-in character for Maddie Bosch) which makes it easier to understand why it feels like it’s an imitation to me rather than the real thing.

Piglet 1 points 5 months ago.

Titus Welliver is in a new crime drama but will be a totally different character for him, Welliver can portray the bad guy really well and the good guy too. But if you like Welliver, The Westies will be released probably in January or later in 2026.

Ballard (2025)

Didn’t realize all episodes have dropped. I’ve read the comments but I’m still going to watch a couple episodes and then decide if I want to continue.

From IMDb: “The pencak silat seen in the film is regionally specific to West Sumatra. Silat in many other Indonesian films is often mixed with the kung fu of Hong Kong cinema.”

I think silat was created for people fighting on narrow raised walkways above water canals. I saw the “Ong Bak” series, and, “Chocolate” just today, but they’re more Muay Thai (and, I don’t know how that relates to silat but I wanna see more silat).

Australia: Land of Parrots (2008)
Birdsforme 9 points 5 months ago.

Extraordinarily beautiful nature film, focusing on Australian’s avian wildlife. It focuses on weather patterns which both help and cull the wildlife, and man’s industry and it’s impact on various species. The film concludes focusing on the rare and exotic black palm cockatoo.
