When I first started watching this I thought I had already seen a programme about this…but, when the first tv doc covering this case mentioned as being an episode of DISAPPEARED many years ago, I realised that was what I had seen . I had no idea of anything that happened in the following years,which is why there is 4 episodes to this docu series . And ,boy is there a lot more to this case!
I am really surprised that I haven’t seen anything else prior to this.
I watch A LOT of true crime shows but this evaded me!
Really interesting and quite bonkers 😊

This show is a very slow burn. It is more soap opera/after school special with True Detective themes. If you are looking for “Jumper” style action, you will find little of it here, as that component plays a very secondary role in this first season. Hopefully the second season will pick up the pace. All in all 3/5.

For me, this goes beyond a True Crime Drama. The series was indeed made with the survivors in mind as the camera lens never lets you forget who the man is and what he has done to wreak havoc on the lives of the women he raped and assaulted.

The tension never lets up. The first episode had me so aggravated and tense that I had to get up and start cleaning to get rid of the stress. Later on, in about EP 3, I realized why. There are few still moments. People talk during a busy party, or meet in a busy cafe, or a busy police station, for example. There are always noticeable exterior sounds from conversations, cars, etc. People are always crossing the frame in all directions—think of a busy cafe where people are getting up out of seats to get their orders or exit and people coming in. This purposeful choice by the director keeps the visible tension active and when you notice you will find yourself frustrated as people try and talk and you just want to yell, “Shut Up!” so you can properly hear the person/woman trying to tell her story or better, to make sure the listener can pay attention. English speakers have the benefit of subtitles to help.

As a crime/detective/noir lover, this series fits all the bills. It is excellently made. I found no fault or moment where I thought, “Hey, a policeman would never do that, or overlook this.” The ineptness of the police throughout the years is unfathomable! I yelled at the screen many times. I got nauseated with how women were treated, even by other women, even up until the present time!

While I have shared how hard this series is to watch, it is worth watching. It is pure quality filmmaking and for me, it serves as a reminder to always be my own advocate and if I can’t be to satisfaction, find someone who can advocate for me! (For example, with doctors who don’t listen to women and think they are whining and to the inept police who aren’t taking you seriously!)

I don’t understand how they never got the recognition they deserved. I guess the lack of proper management, along with what Lemmy mentioned, were the main reasons. Hopefully, with the internet, they can now make a living doing what they love. The problems they faced in the movie could be easily solved online today. Anyway, the movie was great, and even though I didn’t know the band beforehand, that didn’t make it any less enjoyable to watch.
I would add comedy to the genres

overhyped i liked season 1 but season 2 feels forced

For those of you that turn your nose up at the thought of watching animation…..you shouldn’t.
Even with cga and incredible on site effects…sometimes live actors and animals cannot “act” in the way that they are required to reenact scenes from a great script..
So directors turn to tell the tale via animation. Season one was a great story and a lot of fun
…….I am really looking forward to the Season 2. 8/10
