Letterman was the bomb back then. I’d like to smoke a doobie before the show and laugh at everything Letterman said. By the time it was over I was ready to sleep. UHF was a great little dial. Dialing in on shows like ST. Elsewhere or the old Emergency from the 70’s

She had a bunch of them like All My Children, Edge Of Night, General Hospital, As The World Turns, but Days was the big one. I drove my brother crazy since I followed it up into the early 90’s. After John DeLancie who played Eugene was gone, I stopped. Also preferred the original Roman & never liked Victor. HAAA! Soaps….

Mom also watched a lot of daytime talk, such as David Letterman’s 1st show, Merv Griffin, Mike Douglas, Dinah Shore & so on. I like those more than soaps, especially Mike since he had musicians like KISS & John Lennon on. They all had magicians like Ricky Jay, Blackstone, Amazing Randy, etc. All those shows were like Johnny Carson, just daytime.

I loved Match Game too. Your Mom has great taste in soaps too. My sis and I used to watch Days of our lives. My Mom watched the Edge of Night until it was no longer.

It wasn’t ez-pz in those days, haha. Our mom watched a lot of soap operas, mostly Days Of Our Lives. But the good stuff we liked was on UHF. We’d come home from school & find Bugs Bunny, Gilligan’s Island, Little Rascals & stuff like that. Mom also liked game shows, so Price Is Right was big as was Joker’s Wild, Match Game, $20,000 Pyramid & other stuff I can’t remember haha.

I mean, people chasing each other around in a circle is definitely in the same ballpark. ;) I ran the 400.

Watched so many Braves and Cubs games. Always rooted against the Braves, hated the “America’s Team” moniker. Didn’t mind the Cubbies because Harry Caray.

Lucky you, haha. Can’t stand the cold though. We had an antenna. That’s how we climbed to the roof of the house since that was the best place to toke. We had one of those on our tv. Picked up nbc, abc, cbs, pbs as well as a local station and then on UHF got tbs from Atlanta, wgn from Chicago as well as 25, 34 & 43 from Oklahoma. Those channels were the ones that had all the good stuff like Star Trek, One Step Beyond, Pink Panther, Stargate SG1, Bizarre, Benny Hill, Outer Limits, Doctor Who, Fawlty Towers & so on. VHF wasn’t fun, but UHF was okay.

yeah we couldn’t get nbc or abc. We did get cbs. I was able to watch the price is right etc and cjoh which was Canadian and channel 2 oh and our on station in Kingston which was CKWS

I’m Canadian so I just remember watching it on the Canadian TV stations. I didn’t have cable at that time. I was living in the country. Just a TV antenna and an old router to turn the darn thing do you remember those? It had a dial on it? We got 3 stations sometimes 4 in the summer

oh I know it. It went down for several days during the winter. I was so pissed. I was smack dab in the middle of watching old reruns of Alice. Right before Polly Holiday left to do her own spin off. I was so upset. I was on a roll. By the time it came back up I’d lost interest. I had watched the best seasons by that time anyway. hehe

Yep, that’s where we discovered SCTV. They’d show reruns of the CBC show, then later just went ahead & brought the show over to their network after the Cinemax show. They may have even bought it from Cinemax if Cinemax ever owned it rather than just agreed to distribute it. Not sure about that transition.

We have better luck on Archive.org than we do on torrents a lot of the time. It’s nice since it has software, books, everything… entire websites… great site, but they’re trying to kill it too…

Nope, you’ve got it. Those 3 different eras are very separate projects since they went from Canada, then to paid cable, then to American broadcast tv.

Hate to be a stickler but the original SCTV went from 76-81 this only ran for like two years. Broken up into more seasons but didnt last longer, also didnt even make as many episodes as the original.

This is the 3rd version of SCTV that nbc had.

It’s pretty sparse & dismal in that department. I’m sure Archive.org has something of SCTV if not all 3 different series from CBC, Cinemax & nbc.

SCTV is THE BEST! Catherine O’Hara, Gene Levy, Count Floyd, The MacKenzie Brothers, John Candy… Andrea Martin did the best characters… OverTheTop comic madness. There were 3 versions of SCTV too. I think the last one was the one on Cinemax, maybe nbc. We were kids & that was ages ago. The original from CBC was great.

Yeah all my friends loved my Dad. He’s still a kid at heart for sure. He just turned 81 on Monday

Then there was the duo Bod and Doug McKenzie Karrrkkoo karrookakoo Remember them from SCTV. There albums were so funny too. It was around the same time. They were Canadian eh?

Loved all those. Made Denny mad by wearing out his albums though, so we had to make cassette dubs of them haha. Big Bamboo, Los Cochinos & Get Out Of My Room were our favs. You had a cool dad. Our dad threw our dubs out once he found them.

yes I remember the listening to the albums too. I would have been the same age. I watched the movies with my Dad when I was 12 years old. Those are some great memories I hold near and dear now

No doubt this one was weird with the lizards and all that. Still nice to see Evelyn as Donna & Paul as PeeWee again. Our best friend’s big brother had their albums when we were little. First heard them when we were in 3rd grade haha.
