This was so good, Conan O’Brien has to be my favorite talk show host ever. Ive watched him sense I was “a wee lad” waiting for duckman to come on in the 90s. He totally deserves this award. Long time comming.
Agreed on all that. However I don’t picture you as “wee”. I’m wee at 4’9”. In the 90s you weren’t old enough to get into our shows unless we played all ages in skate parks, Masonic Lodges, Legion Halls, and such. Places both Duckman & Conan would have to accompany you to, ha. He’s great. It’s about time he got his.
Wow thank you I’ll check this one out too. Another one I had not heard of
It’s a totally old school Filmation toon. It’s fun. Enjoy your watch lists ♥
Now I know what it would be like to watch Alien on molly.
This was both much better than expected and not very good. I am totally not a fan of “B” movies, but this is the best bad SF movie I can recall in years (meaning I didn’t feel at the end like I should get a refund for stealing it). It’s not existential horror, but it leans heavily on the unreliable narrator; between that and regular servings of body horror, it does portray an unhinged protagonist pretty well. But it abandons (literally erases) all that to get through the final girl survival sequence. That’s my biggest overall criticism of the film: It never sticks to the bit. On the other hand, that might be by design. I see a lot of reviews saying it could have been great, but I have the sense it saves itself from being much worse by not trying harder.
The acting is not bad, given what they have to work with. The female lead is a little “I’m really a model” stiff, but everyone else does a professional enough job of dialing in their death scenes. There is mercifully little dialog. I know it was a 90 minute film, but it felt like a 20 minute short.
The cinematography is the best part (unless you’re epileptic, in which case you will not survive). I especially enjoyed the lighting and color palette. It’s like being in a black-light saturated discotheque, in space. The special effects are mostly quite good (especially the horror effects), save for one scene when they are artfully screaming “this is where we quote John Carpenter’s The Thing.”
The plot is the worst part. Through a sequence of cliched plot twists that somehow cancel each other out, it arrives at a storyline somehow incoherent and predictable at the same time. There are some jump-scares, but no surprises. But there is one memorable case of trope subversion that I found very endearing, in which the obligatory medical robot looks for all the world like a tamagotchi xenomorph. In fact, that might have saved the whole film for me, a wink and a smile from the director that tells us this is an homage and a vanity project, and not to judge it too seriously or too harshly.
Wait… I just realized: There’s no cat! I take it all back, this movie sucks!
The first sequel was originally made for Judy to do in 1962. She died, so daughter Liza did it & was released in 1972. It’s animated & like the MGM classic, it’s also a musical.

Utterly interesting mid-80s terror for kids via a Ken Kesey styled story.
Though an oddity to most everyone, it’s a much talked about cult film in podcasts such as Saturday Night Freak Show.

The 1st sequel is animated. Intended for Judy, but finished by daughter Liza. It’s a musical featuring songs by Van Heusen & Sammy Cahn. Judy’s friend Micky Rooney is also in it.
I have it on my watch list thanks again. <3

In 1962 Filmation began work on an animated sequel to the MGM classic Wizard Of Oz film with Judy Garland. Money was a problem, and Judy died in that time, so for her 1st major role, Judy’s eldest daughter Liza Minnelli was cast in her mom’s part as Dorothy Gale, duplicating her mom’s distinctive speaking voice. It sources mostly Baum’s 2nd & 3rd books. Judy’s friend & co-star Mickey Rooney is in it, so is Margaret Hamilton. This time she’s Aunt Em rather than the witch, then Paul Lynde, Miton Berle & many others.
Sammy Cahn & Jim Van Heusen composed a dozen songs. After 10 years in production the film was finally released in 1972. The file here is sourced from the restored DVD release. The DVD has lots of bonus stuff from the 2 tv releases not seen in the theatrical release.
In 1985 Return To Oz was also made as a sequel to the MGM Wizard Of Oz film, sourcing the same material, but is not a musical nor animated & is decidedly darker, exploring the psychology of sadness, loss & even gas-lighting.

Very underwhelming. They could have made something great out of this, but they played it safe and just kept the dialogue and plot basic and formulaic.
Right on. It’s very very 80s as in a Toby Hooper meets Joe Dante & Brian DePalma sort of way. It’s a weirdo kinder-horror contraption that uses everything from Baum’s books, but in a twisted way.
no kidding? Well I had never heard of it. I remember the Whiz with M.J and D.R. but I had never heard of this movie. Thanks I will add it to my watch list. I like Piper’ s acting for sure.

Listed as a 2 part mini as per its original airing, the file for part 1 is the entire adaptation from Ursula K. Le Guin’s epic immersive literary work.
Try Return To Oz on for size. Has Faruza Balk when she was still a child actor. It was intended as a sequel to the original MGM film. One can say looking back on it, they didn’t succeed in that. What one can expect from this however is a very 80s flick that is utter nightmare fuel for kids. And it has some great practical effects too with a warped story full of weirdo symbolism.

This is the A&E adaptation of Ursula K. Le Guin’s book when A&E was still Arts & Entertainment rather than Atrocities & Erroneous Trash. After the 90’s Lisa Bonet didn’t do many films, but this is one. In addition to her, David, James & Lukas, it also has the award winning Sheila McCarthy from Emily of New Moon.
Here is the 1st adaptation from 1980:

This the the 2nd adaption of Ursula K. Le Guin’s fantastic story only she could have imagined.
I’m going to be completely honest and say what many people will not agree with. For one I didn’t know Amber Heard was in this or I likely wouldn’t have watched it. However after viewing her acting on a non bias level, she really screwed the pooch after what she did to J.D. The woman does have talent. Now after all the Borderline B.S she pulled no one will ever hirer her again. Karma, I love Karma!!!!
Is it just me or does Asajj have a strong sexy vibe going like Christine Baranski x Taylor Swift. lol
Lol I think that there are certain websites for that kind of stuff lol.
hahaha, In deed, on all points :D

Good 1st adaptation of Guin’s book with Davidson. The 2nd one was done by the sculptor who did Angles & Insects, Phillip Haas in 2002 with Jimmy Caan, Lukas Haas, Lisa Bonet, David Strathairn & Sheila McCarthy.

Ursula K. Le Guin was a great writer with a mind like no other. Her creativity brought forth this excellent story. This is the 1st film adaption with Bruce Davidson, Margaret Avery & Vandi Clark.
Well a bunch of wildflowers for you! Even though that’s true for you too as well as a lot of people here who actually watch what they’re reviewing. I wouldn’t have written it at all had you not commented on Franco’s acting. It helps that my family has seen this particular flick about a dozen times too… (wink)
you have an incredible talent for writing reviews. You put Roger and Ebert to shame girl! You put what needs to be said about a movie, very eloquently, which matches your style and grace. Have a great Sunday dear friend 🥰🥰

Really is a good movie done with love & respect to the MGM adaptation. Franco is indeed good as a shyster carnie who reluctantly becomes a protagonist, but not without great cost. The folly of his false flattery plays hard on Mila Kunis & Rachel Weisz both, and both actors run with their parts. Michelle Williams as Glinda The Good is very believable as the embodiment of maternal protection & goodness which is far better than what Franco’s huckster character deserves.

amazed this is from 2006. seems much older.
Anyway, it was an interesting tale.
Interesting adaptation of Ursula K. Le Guin’s material. She was a real peach, that lady. Total sci-fi fantasy original. A very good video bio was done right before she died:

The adaptation with Kristen Kreuk, Isabella Rossellini, Danny Glover & Emily Hampshire is the one we’re most familiar with:

50th anniversary! Playing on the big screen all over. We’ll be smoking elderberries on the way to the theater, sorry, theatre.
Thanks! Things haven’t been exactly financially rosy for these gentlemen as they settle into their later years. Anything that recognizes the genius of the lightning captured in a bottle that is Python is a good thing. These guys need to feel the love for their good work which brought nothing but joy & amusement to those who need it.
I really enjoyed that, I have much different feelings on Franco’s ability to act. I thought he was very captivating in this for a prequel to the Wizard of Oz I was not disappointed. Today would be a perfect day to sit the entire family down to watch this well developed movie

Yikes, you truly have a persecution complex. I am truly sorry that you had to go through the s—t you have gone through (though I never gave my consent to have you fight on my behalf). But chill, sir, I don’t even know you well enough to not care about you or hate you. And you began the verbal dispute, by referring to my friend as “the woman in the grocery store from ‘The Myst” (it’s “The Mist”, btw), and thereafter whining when she gave you clever retort.
Right on. Thanks a bunch. It’s all self-aggrandizement with those who play victim when others do not engage with their flavor of crazy. Take Scorcese in this. This doc is more about him than any scholarly pursuit of his subject. At its best, this is just one terrible reenactment after the other with no academic merit at all.
I can relate. I didn’t watch TV from 1990 until about ‘20 or 2010..i missed a bunch too but it was well worth it 😘
For sure. We all have this other thing we do called Having A Life, and tv frequently doesn’t figure into that. Pretty cool we can flip a switch & it’s there though.
It sucked
I call bullshit. Straight up. I believe that if your comment is, “It sucked” then you haven’t actually seen it. Because the fact is, I just saw it in the theater and guess what? This movie is legit good. Legit. Nothing else out right now is close to this good.
Oh Lord! It seems that CW somehow bought itself a Sherlock Holmes treatment. God save us! Why does everything nowadays have to be re-invented for young adults?!
Because there is very little decent literature being written these days.
I like the younger versions of Sherlock better. This old one, although he truly resembles the illustrations in the original books, is still sort of creepy. How many illegitimate children can he possibly have? Seems they are going to just keep inventing them until people get sick of it and stop watching. I may be wrong, though. It’s been so long since I read all the books and stories, he may have had several, but I don’t remember that.
I like the storyline, though, so I’m watching it and enjoying it, but it still bothers me that TV insists on mutilating classic literature for their own benefit.
This show is Epic!!! This is Not a spoiler but wasnt included in the translation above. The catch is that the drug Hapna will mutate in anyone who has ever taken it. Within 3 years after ingestion, people begin dying. Unofrtunately, thats ALOT of people… So this is the story about how they are trying to stop this Extinction Level Event. Thankfully, the episodes have perfect English dubbed versions in most available links.
I was just about to try this, but knowing it’s dubbed, I think I’ll skip it. Dubbing drives me crazy. I get upset even if the voice track is a little off. I want the sound to match the lips.
I have a family of friends that I adore. They are from Palestine. I am so grateful that they are here living in Canada, safe from all this violence and blood shed. Amen

Fantastic cocksuckin show man, all star cast brings this to life right from the get go. Now, I have a serious question, whats everyones take on Al, do you all love him or is he despicable. Personally I think his character is great, but I swear I can almost smell the peaches and whiskey coming from that greasy cocksucker right through the screen lol.
Gotcha. There will nevah be an original besides it in itself!
There was a 15 year gap between season 9 and 10 and most fans of the show consider season 10 and 11 the first official re airing of the show after it concluded in 01=02.

I just found out that Carrie Preston has been married to Michael Emerson for years, so that made their sparring here even more interesting. And Emerson is so good at playing antagonists.
Gahhhhhh and here ya got me all twixt’d lol
Was thinking there may be an actual reboot.

Negan is the only character worth watching in this whole “enterprise”
