First episode is so cool. Really well written, great actors. Adrian Brody is fantastic, huge fun. On to the second episode!

Update: second and third episode are meh… woke agenda hard at play, the woke requirements of “The Academy” are shining out of every crack.

Update 2: Ok. The episode with the ‘gator was fun, actually. (“The Taste Of Human Blood”)

Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves. Heres Tom with the Weather.

You never see a positive drug story on the news. They always have the same LSD story. You’ve all seen it: “Today a young man on acid … thought he could fly … jumped out of a building … what a tragedy!” What a dick. He’s an idiot. If he thought he could fly, why didn’t he take off from the ground first? Check it out? You don’t see geese lined up to catch elevators to fly south; they fly from the fucking ground. He’s an idiot. He’s dead. Good! We lost a moron? Fucking celebrate. There’s one less moron in the world.

I’m tired of this back-slappin’ “isn’t humanity neat” bullshit. We’re a virus with shoes.

You see, I think drugs have done some good things for us. I really do. And if you don’t believe drugs have done good things for us, do me a favor. Go home tonight. Take all your albums, all your tapes and all your CDs and burn them. ‘Cause you know what, the musicians that made all that great music that’s enhanced your lives throughout the years were rrreal fucking high on drugs. The Beatles were so fucking high they let Ringo sing a few tunes.

I loved when Bush came out and said, ‘We are losing the war against drugs.’ You know what that implies? There’s a war being fought, and the people on drugs are winning it.

That’s what I hate about the war on drugs. All day long we see those commercials: “Here’s your brain, here’s your brain on drugs”, “Just Say No”, “Why do you think they call it dope?” … And then the next commercial is [singing] “This Bud’s for yooouuuu.” C’mon, everybody, let’s be hypocritical bastards. It’s okay to drink your drug. We meant those other drugs. Those untaxed drugs. Those are the ones that are bad for you.

Why is pot against the law? It wouldn’t be because anyone can grow it, and therefore you can’t make a profit off it, would it? Isn’t that weird, we’ve made nature against the law. That’s how un-natural we’ve become.

Your denial is beneath you, and thanks to the use of hallucinogenic drugs, I see through you.

Not all drugs are good, all right? Some of them … are great. Just gotta know your way around them, is all.

No, I don’t do drugs anymore, either. But I’ll tell you something about drugs. I used to do drugs, but I’ll tell you something honestly about drugs, honestly, and I know it’s not a very popular idea, you don’t hear it very often anymore, but it is the truth: I had a great time doing drugs. Sorry. Never murdered anyone, never robbed anyone, never raped anyone, never beat anyone, never lost a job, a car, a house, a wife or kids, laughed my ass off, and went about my day. Now, where’s my commercial? -Bill Hicks

The Testaments was a novel written in 2019 by Atwood as a sequel to THT, 15 years in the future after the uprising we are about to witness. It has been adapted and will be a series starting sometime in 2026 (?). Only Ann Dowd (Aunt Lydia) will reprise her role. She’s listed for 1 episode, but so it the rest of the cast, so who knows? I will miss this series, very much, but it’s good it goes out this way, and not because it gets stupid.

It’s tragic evil capitalism. I’ve been gone from there since a certain someone started the bid for a certain position of power. I was appalled, having served this someone in The Plaza years before. The fact that all rights to humane treatment and dignity and the whole premise the States was founded on is being bulldozed by a 6 time bankruptcy recipient is mind-numbing. We are so fucked because it’s much, much deeper than this. This, is just the carrot.

random000 7 points 7 months ago.

(applause from the balcony) We left the states years back because a certain someone promised hope & only delivered despair, failing to prosecute the Bush crime syndicate & instead expanded on all of his policies, proving himself to be nothing more than yet another conservative in disguise & not worthy of democratic sponsorship - just like Biden. So we shut the door & moved into the middle of the ocean under Swiss jurisdiction. Much safer.

Gotcha and agreed, but, this was the mid to late 1970’s to early 1980’s in the nepotism capital of the world: a suburb of LA/Hollyweird. I’m so glad to be out of that place, I cannot tell you. Punk 4eva and eva. 🧷☠️ I’m still punk, and now I’m in Europe, so at least there’s that, well, for a while at least. I miss The Clash, The Ramones, Devo… etc.

random000 9 points 7 months ago.

No doubt. We grew up in those times too, not that place, but it was different worlds then & now. But early DEVO… whoa… now THAT’s Punk as it gets. Conservatives shoot kids at Kent State in Ohio, Devo is going to school there, was shot at & lost friends, so their very Anarchist response to conservative terrorism was to channel it into music, manifesting their ideas of devolution of humanity. Not as warm & fuzzy as The GoGos, but occupying the same world.

I went to WHT high school, and was in school with Jane Wiedlin’s brother Jay (same year as me), and Jane (2 years ahead of us). That school also had Lisa Kudrow in my same class. It’s funny how people portray her. She was not at all nice back then and came from a very wealthy family. Jane, on the other hand, was quite laid back and easy to chat with. I was totally punk with a flower child vibe. I cannot say I knew her well at all, but she was very nice and played in a small band that was at parties at times. It’s weird, being in California (I live in Europe now for a very long time), all sorts of rich, privileged kids were at my high school. It was pretty over-run with undeserved privilege, even then. 16 year-olds getting brand new Porsche’s and BMW’s. The disparity of the classes was enormous. Kim Bassinger used to drive her convertible Corvette to pick up her step-daughter (Ron Snyder’s daughter) who was in my art class and I sat with. Anyhow, just a bit of trivia. I got free tickets to the Go-Go’s at the Hollywood Paladium thanks to dating Jay, later on. lol

Has a similar tone & production as Lucid with Billy Zane, Felicity Clark & Sophie Gilbert. The subjects are different, but the movies pair with each other only in that way.

Otherwise, this movie isn’t worth a watch. There’s not enough effort to call it pretentious, not enough imagination to call it art house, and no science at all to call it sci-fi. It’s just a bad fantasy film. It had a promising start, all due to Rosa, but Adam gave up on his own project in the first act. Save time & watch Lucid instead.

labeled “Comedy” and starring some heavy hitters of both comedic acting and writing. I thought this was going to be a laugh riot. I teared up more than I laughed. Definitely worth watching but don’t expect 30 Rock or Macgruber. It’s contrived petty drama, not much story, feels emotionally manipulative. Just couples having issues for no reason other than to make it seem like something is happening. Story pacing was odd and formulaic, they keep doing this thing where something huge happens and we don’t see it happen, it just cuts to the next scene with people saying what just happened. All the big moments are like that, bizarre choice. It really worked the first time but after that it was annoying. Sounds like I hated it but there was a lot to love too. The caliber of performances was high and it’s not slow at all. Kept me entertained non-stop. I’d recommend it just not as a comedy.
