Haven’t watched this yet, but I remember Christy Martin. I seen a few of her fights live back in the day. It got me into watching the women fight. She got so bloody, I was thinking, how does she keep going? Those fights were nothing short of brutal. I have remained a fan of women fighters ever since, so.. This one is going on my watch list. However… I seriously doubt that this movie can convey the utter brutality of the fights I watched Christy Martin take part in back in the day. Once I watch it, if I am wrong, I will be sure to comment again. But I want to say one more thing. Having not watched this yet. I can’t spoil anything. But I saw her in real life. So.. I am recommending this based solely on what I witnessed. If you never saw this woman fight, I just gotta say.. It was something to behold. Think Rocky. All Bloodied and just beat all to hell, but still coming at you. No quit, all heart. She deserves a movie. I hope it’s good!

PZitsEZ 2 points 3 days ago.

And now I’ve watched it. This is my pick for the Oscar. Everything I said in my previous comment holds true. But I meant that in the ring. The fact is, my comments describe her entire life. Brutal, gruesome and ultimately triumphant. This is the movie of the year.

The fact that the main character was invented for this series and never referenced in other treks is part of the biggest problem. Without giving spoilers away Burnham’s background DEMANDS some kind of previous reference to legitimize it. Instead she’s just thrown in and given a backstory tied to TOS, TNG, DS9 that for some reason (abysmal writing, no respect for fans, woke agenda) is never acknowledged by any of the other series. You also have the equivalent of technology from the year 2400 being used in like 1950 - an exaggeration, but only a slight one. Disco also plagiarized the concept of the mycelium warp drive from a video game. The only way this series would be even close to “good, modern sci-fi” is if you completely removed the Star Trek name from it.

Had to watch this because a 1.5 out of 10 is really more of a challenge than a rating. The result? I think it got 1 of that 1.5 for the 2 scenes where you could see boobs clearly. How far beyond “epic fail” can you go when even the simulated sex scenes are unwatchable boner-killers?

Star Trek: Discovery (2017) S1 E3
fessologue -7 points 4 days ago.

I don’t get all these complaints. Y’all going in with specific expectations I think, expecting to see the old familiar stuff. But this is good sci-fi, modern.
Also keep in mind that the main character was total invented for this series. Never referenced in other treks. So take for what it is, and enjoy sci-fi!

It’s all good bud, I know what you meant via the context it was given in.
There was certainly lots going on and the build-up to it was very well done, creating a real sense of tension that had me on the proverbial edge of my seat, but for me, the utter unreality of the fire situation soon after it began, especially after all the brutal, gritty and in-your-face reality of abject race-hate mere seconds previously, utterly destroyed all the immersion that had built up beforehand, leaving me wondering wtf. It felt completely out of context with everything else so far, hence my earlier quip about AI.
I’m happy you missed what I noticed, as you got to stay in the moment and enjoy the whole spectacle of it. After all, it is a great series!

Great movie. Sweeney and Foster did an awesome job playing the roles of Christy and Jim. Wever as the role of Christie’s Mom was unfaultable as usual. I have always enjoyed any role she’s played. As I mentioned before it had a great soundtrack and any GenX will love it I’m sure. I’m so proud of the real Christy Salter after all she’s been through she’s still kicking ass and taking names lol

Will you watch it with your mom and dad then?
No. You will watch it alone in your room. Because it is porn with plot sprinkled on top.
80% of this show is sex. Time jump. Sex. Time jump. Sex.

Well my mom & dad are both deceased so no I won’t be watching it w/them. Besides my mom was a homophobe when she was alive so again no. She was also a POS, so no again. My dad was a conservative xian so no again. He was a homophobe who thought gays could be reformed, so no again. Gee, I just can’t win can I?

I like it a lot but no one says that it looks too much like “A Wounded Fawn” in the theme and structure. right down to the characters. Of course with a lot more “classy art” feeling, and personally I’m a fan of the actress so I got for my money’s worth but it’s a pure very talented thematic plagiarism with the love of 80s genre cinema minus.

Hey kids, if you’re ever trapped in the middle of a full-on building fire, just climb into a metal box and wait until it’s over and you’ll be totally fine! LOL, wtf!!! Do ovens not exist now?
Truly absurd - was that fire scene written by AI?!

The cliffhanger saved this episode for me, but it just won’t be as good now they killed off the best child actor I’ve seen since Bugsy Malone.

I finished watching this new western drama and of course it ended with a cliffhanger! But here is what I found about a season 2. “As of this moment, The Abandons is not renewed for season 2. As is typical for most new Netflix shows, the streamer is surely evaluating the show’s performance in its opening few weeks to determine if renewal is a worthwhile endeavor.” I hate when a show ends with a cliffhanger & probably not going to be renewed.

I just dont see myself being able to finish this the way its going, I mean, I really WANT too because it’s part of my commitment to my space opera binge, but I just can’t suffer through this crap anymore, this show isn’t even Star Trek in spirit. I might actually have to skip over this, go check out the 2009 movie trilogy then hit up Picard then SNW and the animated series.

“…but I just can’t suffer through this crap anymore, this show isn’t even Star Trek in spirit.”

E-x-a-c-t-l-y how I felt when I dropped the series. Can’t remember what episode it was. But I remember that “This isn’t Trek” feeling all too well! Luckily Discovery stands alone. Your remaining selections have their hit and miss moments but I can confidently say you will never experience this feeling again lol.
