Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993) S2 E1

After finishing season 1 I fully intend to finish it without interruption. Odo is actually quickly becoming one of my favourite characters. Kira is a complicated story for me already, because, at first, she REALLY annoyed me. She contradicted and disobeyed, pretty much everyone and everything out of what seemed like sheer principle. But later on learned in an argument with Odo, Odo saying and I quote “You’ve made a career out of breaking the rules for 14 years”, realizing then that that’s just who she was and how she was written, and she annoyed me less, and I became more sympathetic to her arc as a result.

If you can put aside your belief or disbelief in the very religious focus of this film, you may find what I did which is that the positive power of love can do amazing things. This story is based on the book with the same title written by Joyce Smith. She is the adopted mother of John Smith who was brought back to life after drowning in a frozen lake. It is a true story of which the details and facts can be verified online.

Sonja Henie was the great Scandinavian ice skating equivalent to Esther Williams. Didn’t make as many films as Lorenzo Lamas mom, but what there is a great treasure from that era.

Actually Odo is the one I am interested in the most, to me he represents one of the most dynamic characters on this series. I can’t deny the similarities between the shows are uncanny, however I am not a “trekky” and maybe that’s why I didn’t really see that one show ripped off another.

random000 7 points 6 months ago.

Right on. Back when those programs aired, we didn’t watch tv so we didn’t have one. But our brother was a Sci-Fi convention sort of fella, so he kept up with all that. Some of the stuff he said about the feud with those shows was that bab5 would’ve never existed had trek not 1st existed, etc. You know how that goes.

As far as DS9, They really wrote very well for Odo & take him on a good journey & many thought the wrap up to be very satisfying, which is rare for a lot of shows.

I haven’t seen Babylon 5.
But if you say it’s better than anything Imma gonna watch it. I will report to you every episode lol

Twixtid 2 points 6 months ago.

Bare in mind lol, that’s just MY opinion. Prior to seeing it, if I had to say what my favourite show is, and you may even make fun of me but it would have to be Supernatural. Prior to supernatural I of course was a huge fan of the X-files, and a few other shows I liked sprinkled in here and there, Millennium, Outer Limits, Defiance, Falling Skies to name a couple.

I would say and only for the reason that so far, this is filling that void I thought I was going to miss when Babylon 5 ended for me. Babylon 5, is without question, the best show I’ve seen, ever, and has my now two all time favourite characters and story arcs both individual and combined, those arcs being Londo’s and G’kar’s, I can’t pick between the two, they have to go side by side. The tones here again very similar, we have slavery, genocide, war, disease, espionage, sabatoge, crime, to name just a few.

I remember watching this in High School with my mom. Neither of us were diehard space fans (I enjoyed old ST reruns as a kid but couldn’t stand ST:NG) and we both loved it so much that we actually read a ton of the novels too. I haven’t seen an ep in years so maybe it’s time. I loved Odo and Kira, Dax and Quark and of course Captain Sisko. That I remember these characters 30 years later should say something. This show also has my favorite “cross-over” episode of all time and I’m not going to elaborate. If you know, you know :) I hope you keep watching & enjoying.

If you want a new space opera to watch, don’t pass this up. I didn’t really dig Star Trek growing up like my stepfather did, so I never bothered to watch any of them, but as I mentioned before, Ive been on a space opera binge which has inevitably landed me here, but ya, this show is good, at least that’s my opinion, very similar to Babylon 5.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993) S2 E1
random000 10 points 6 months ago*.

There was a bitter division with the DS9 - bab5 folks, claims that bab5 was just a trek rip, etc. However if you dig Odo, his story arc is very important all the way to the bitter end of the series, and figures in very prominently, whereas some other characters might not have as consequential development.

Just finished season 1, wasn’t sure how I was gonna like this. I have pretty much avoided Star Trek thus far, but my recent space opera binge has left me in a position where this is quite literally all there is left for me to watch in this genre, I guarantee you couldn’t find one I haven’t seen, the space opera binge I have been on is in it’s second month, so out of ALL the ST candidates, I had heard this was more similar to that of Babylon 5, and darker in tone than it’s cousins. Season 1 was surprisingly good, for the most part it’s been a “conflict of the week” format with very short story arcs lasting maybe 2 episodes at best. Hoping to learn more about Odo’s background.

Then you have a lot of Binge Watching to accomplish(3 movies released in 2004, 2006, 2008: TV series from 2014-2018). I am sharing the direct PW links here because it is difficult to stumble upon these through the search. A blanket search turns up only the TV series and not the movies. The movies are only found if you remove ‘The Librarian’ from the SEO search box and only list the rest of the title. There is also a link that includes a list of all 3 movies under the search of ‘The Librarian’ but no links to each movie are featured. Perhaps that needs cleaned up/removed?

Also be aware that it is not important that you watch the 3-movies before the 2014-tv show. Though, per it’s ‘educational history dialogue’, it may be beneficial to watch the first 3 movies before watching the OG TV series of 2014-2018. As the 2014 tv series does pay homage to the OG films, throughout it’s 4 season run in a few episodes.

I wonder how old the links are. I spotted one movie with only 1 link so I am wondering if each movie deserves to have additional fresh uploads…hint hint beloved uploaders.

  1. The Librarian: Quest for the Spear

The last drama I watched with Jessica Biel was Candy, but I didn’t make it past episode one. This new drama has some good actresses, Lorraine Toussaint and Gloria Reuben. From the description, it looks like only one season. If not, is Lorraine Toussant leaving the Equalizer? I haven’t watched the latest 2 seasons of the Equalizer so not sure what is going on with it.

The Last Anniversary (2025)
dw99 1 points 6 months ago.

This is essentially a schlocky Hallmark family drama/romdram, but the writers and producers tried to amp it up with elements of comedy (all of which fall flat) and with a mystery (which is dull). Throw in lots of characters who are nothing more than plot devices, and the result is a garbled mess with an identity crisis. And an appalling waste of a superb actor, Miranda Richardson.

I don’t recommend this

I agree about a 2nd season considering how season 1 ended. There had better me a 2nd season because of the opening scene in episode 1 and then what Carl’s boss said to his partner in the last scene of episode 9.
